The Embu County Government and signed a Kshs 25.5 billion investment deal with a Chinese engineering firm, Shanxi Dikuang Overseas Engineering Construction Company Ltd ( SDOEC).
The partnership will cover the construction of an agricultural demonstration park and a value addition park to the tune of Kshs 1 billion, a mineral resource prospecting and exploration development and processing project at Kshs 4 Billion, development of hospitality facilities and support infrastructure at the Mwea Game Reserve at a cost of Kshs 5 billion, construction of a waste treatment plant and energy production from
waste treatment worth of Kshs 10 Billion and a cultural and exchange programme to the tune of Kshs 500 million.
Speaking during the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Embu town, Governor Martin Wambora welcomed the partnership adding that the initiative will ensure effective resource mobilization and wealth optimization for the county of Embu.
“We are looking forward to work with SDOC to implement the proposed projects and further develop the Embu county. We further encourage other partners invest in Embu especially in value addition of Avocado, Coffee and tea sectors”, Governor Wambora said.
The project funds will be guaranteed by the Provincial government of Shanxi in China in accordance with the requirements by the national treasury of Kenya. The vice governor of Shanxi provincial Government Mr Tiancia who was present during the MoU signing ceremony said that all the projects will be implemented by way of engineering, procurement, construction and financing arrangement between the Embu County Government and SDOC.
“This is a great moment for the people’s government of the province of Shanxi and we hope it will create along lasting relationship between the two governments in future”, he added.
Further, he added, all the projects implemented will employ applicable technology transfer and job creation for the Embu County residents.
SDOC is one of the largest geological prospecting bureau in China and has interest in energy, environment, forestry and mining projects across the world. It was represented the Peng Dongxio, the Director General among other senior officials. Earlier, Governor Wambora conducted the Chinese delegation to game drive at the Mwea Game Reserve where he reiterated that the Embu County Government was committed to converting the Mwea to be the Crown Jewel of Embu County.
The reserve is home to Elephants, Giraffe, Buffalo, Hippo, Zebra among other wild animals. It is home to over 50 avian species.
